My name is Tina DeLeon and I worked on a proteomic project with Dr. Parker and his lab. My project focused on exposing human hair to oxidative chemistry and assessing the changes in genetically variant peptides (GVPs). These GVPs can be used for identification purposes and be used to compliment DNA-based identification methods. In addition to finishing my thesis with Dr. Parker I am also working full-time at the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Laboratory as a Firearms Examiner. I am also in a year-long training with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ National Firearms Examiner Academy, which I will complete by September 2019.
